What is REACH?
REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) is the EU Chemicals Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006. It requires manufacturers and importers of chemical substances to register with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
Who does REACH affect?
REACH affects manufacturers and importers of substances from 1 tonne/year, downstream users (e.g. formulators), and all companies that place articles containing SVHC substances above 0.1% on the market.
What are SVHC substances?
SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) are substances of particular concern – including CMR substances, PBT/vPvB substances and endocrine disruptors. The ECHA candidate list currently comprises more than 240 substances.
What must a REACH safety data sheet contain?
A safety data sheet under REACH contains 16 mandatory sections: identification, hazards, composition, first aid, fire-fighting, accidental release, handling, exposure/protection, physical properties, stability, toxicology, ecology, disposal, transport, regulations and other information.
